Director of DevelopmentDIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENTPOSITION OVERVIEWThe Director of Development will be responsible for establishing the strategic goals and implementation plans for the schools development program in collaboration with the Head of School and the Boards Development Committee, The Director is responsible for the schools annual giving efforts, capital campaign and major gifts initiatives, alumni relations, and database management. The Director of Development leads a team of five talented staff members in order to fulfill the departments goals. In deciding whether for a position at Nueva, you are strongly encouraged to consider whether your values align with Nueva's Mission, Vision, and Values.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESBuild, lead, and manage the development team of staff, volunteers, and consultants/independent contractors.Lead and managestaff, volunteers, and vendors to ensure timely and successful execution of annual giving programs.Lead and manage staff and volunteers in the building and execution of robust campaign/major gifts programs.Lead and manage staff and volunteers, in coordination with the Admissions Department, to ensure timely and successful philanthropic onboarding of new families.Lead and manage staff and volunteers to further develop and execute the school's alumni relations efforts, including cultivation of its graduates and their families.Manage and maintain effective systems in coordination with other departments to ensure the reliability and accuracy of data related to gift accounting and acknowledgment, pledge collection, prospect research, and prospect management.Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all school and department initiatives to make the best decisions for the department and donors.Manage the Development office income and expense budgets.QUALIFICATIONSRole:specific experience and competencyA proven track record of progressively challenging fundraising success, including annual operating support (annual fund, auctions, and events), major gifts, capital campaigns, and planned givingVision, creativity, flexibility, and the capacity to develop a departmental strategic plan for raising philanthropic support to execute the school's strategic planStrong major gifts and capital campaign successStrong and demonstrated success leading, managing, and/or engaging all stakeholders:trustees, colleagues, parents, students, alumni, other donors, partners, and volunteersDatabase (CRM), prospect research, and general technology experience required:Raiser's Edge experience strongly preferredUnderstanding of independent school communities and culture10+ years of relevant development experience, including at least five years of leadership experience in independent schoolsGeneral knowledge and skill setExcellent oral and written communication skills and effective presentation skillsActive engagement in profession
