Job Description This Farmer-to-Farmer assignment will be implemented in the town of Santa Lucia in Huánuco, Peru.
The goal of this assignment is to support the members of the Asociacion de Agricultores Agroindustriales Santa Lucia, who work in cacao, in strengthening their cooperative governance and financial management practices.
Objectives: Understanding their cooperative's values, vision, member roles and responsibilities, coop advantages/disadvantages, bylaws, and leadership. Analyzing cooperative business opportunities. Identifying and using relevant finance data to make decisions. Deliverables: Training on coop values, roles, responsibilities, and by-laws.
Training on how to analyze business opportunities and relevant finance data to make decisions A Trip Report with SMART Recommendations that will help to improve the Host Organization business. An outreach activity.
Upon return to the United States, the volunteer is asked to share his or her Farmer-to-Farmer Program experience with their community and networks.
Qualifications Professional with experience on cooperative business and financial management Knowledgeable in organizational development, empowerment, and leadership skills.
Experience with adult group facilitation and excellent communication skills Knowledge of cacao production is preferred, but not required.
Spanish language skills are preferable.
The volunteer must also have significant experience working in an international setting and awareness of cultural differences.
The volunteer must be comfortable traveling in rural areas of a foreign country with limited resources.
Additional Information SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to be flexible and available for two week volunteer assignments; Desire to promote cross-cultural learning and exchanges through technical assistance; Available for virtual communications with Host Organization and Staff; U.S. citizen or resident; and Advanced English language skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
