Job Description This Farmer-to-Farmer assignment will be implemented in the Tacna region of Perú.
The goal of this assignment is to support members of Grupo Oro Mundo Sociedad Comercial de Responsabilidad Limitada-OROMUN, who work in oregano, with safety management of their processing plant.
Objectives: Assess and define workflow processes for the processing plant. Learn Good Manufacturing Practices and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Plans Deliverables: A workflow process diagram for oregano oil and dehydrated oregano. GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) guideline structure and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) plan. Training on the basics of GMP and HACCP. Suggestions for infrastructure improvement and machinery distribution to meet national and international certification criteria. A Trip Report with SMART Recommendations that will help to improve the Host Organization business.
An outreach activity.
Upon return to the United States, the volunteer is asked to share his or her Farmer-to-Farmer Program experience with their community and networks.
Qualifications Degree or specialization in food studies, manufacturing engineering or industrial engineering. Experience in implementing HACCP and GMP plan in small manufacturing plants Experience in facilitating training sessions and effective communication skills.
Knowledge in oregano value chain and experience working in Andean communities would be desirable.
Intermediate Spanish would be an?asset.
Additional Information SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to be flexible and available for two week volunteer assignments; Desire to promote cross-cultural learning and exchanges through technical assistance; Available for virtual communications with Host Organization and Staff; U.S. citizen or resident; and Advanced English language skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
